Facing the consequences of a violent uprooting, Mateo Sobode Chiqueno has devoted his life to preserving fragments of a disappearing culture and rebuilding the memory of his lost home, walking across communities in the arid and desolate Paraguayan Chaco region to record stories, songs, and testimonies of other members of the Ayoreo people who, just like him, were uprooted from the forest, losing their ancestral territory, their means of subsistence, their beliefs, and their homes.
