Mata

Latin American Documentary Films Official Competition

Faced with the advance of eucalyptus plantations, a farmer and an indigenous community mount strong resistance and reveal the impact of monoculture on the environment, in contrast with traditional ways of life. The word “mata” means “forest” in Portuguese and is, at the same time, a form of the verb matar (“to kill”). The south of Bahia, in Brazil, went from a place of native forests to a silent, lifeless land, proving the enemy can also be green.
