Stolen Fish

International Feature Films Official Competition

In The Gambia, the smallest country within mainland Africa, fish, their main source of protein, is becoming scarce. The country’s artisanal fishing sector and food security are being threatened by Chinese corporations that turn fish into animal feed, later exported to Europe. The film follows Abou, Mariama, and Paul, three Gambians who share intimate stories of survival, yearning, and migratory trajectories that will leave a lifelong mark.
