The poalets, seemingly harmless recycling bins, have now torn a town in two. Banners and graffiti reading “No als poalets” (No to poalets) flood every balcony and every street. As the countdown to the elections begins, the ballot boxes will have the final say in whether this surreal polarization succeeds and rewrites the town’s destiny.
